5 Ways to Make Your Business a Friend of Simplicity



Chopin once remarked, “Simplicity is the final achievement. After one has played a vast quantity of notes and more notes, it is simplicity that emerges as the crowning reward of art.”

Bravo!

What about you? Is your business a friend of simplicity?

If it’s not, you’re losing money. Every day. And here’s why:

Simplicity is currency. Especially since we live in hyperspeed, A.D.D., instant gratification culture.

Simplicity is approachability. Because: Complexity = Conflict = Avoidance.

Simplicity is eloquence. Because it’s more listenable, more readable and more digestible.

Simplicity is elegance. Think Oscar Night. Think Joan Rivers: “Who are you wearing?” Which fashions usually win?

Simplicity is sophistication. That was Da Vinici’s philosophy. That simple was nothing but complex in disguise.

BUT, HERE’S THE CHALLENGE: Simplicity is hard. It requires more energy, more brainpower and more courage that complexity.

Seth Godin talked about this idea during a recent interview. He said, “Simplicity has an enemy: Fear. Fear demands places to hide, and simplicity can't offer that.”

He’s right. Fear comes in the form of that little red shoulder devil, constantly whispering in your ear that complexity is the answer.

But it’s not. Simple is.

So, I invite you to explore these five practices for making your business a better friend of simplicity:

1. STOP being fancy. Trying to appeal to everyone inevitably fails. Simplicity, on the other hand, is a fashion that never goes out of style. Fight for every inch of it.

2. STOP creating riddles that take too long for impatient customers to solve. As your company implements its simplicity strategy, ask yourself five questions:

a. Is this idea simple enough that a kindergartner could understand it?
b. Can this idea be explained in less than ten seconds using less than ten words?
c. How easy will it be for people to repeat this?
d. How much more could you distill the essence of this concept?
e. What three things could be done immediately to make this simpler?

3. STOP rejecting simple. Simplicity isn’t crushing the complicated – it’s eliminating the extraneous. So, start eliminating the unnecessary so the necessary can speak. People will listen.

4. STOP making things bigger than they need to be. Be courageous enough to go with something simple and focused. Your message will have the best chance of getting through (and sticking TO) people.

5. STOP complicating your message. It’s like admitting to your customers that you haven’t reflected upon or extended concern for them. Simplicity, on the other hand, helps customers feel in control.

Ultimately, simplicity IS a valid business strategy.

JUST REMEMBER: The world is loud. People are busy. And they don’t care about you.

Disengage the essential, or live with being ignored.

19 Do's and Don'ts of Award Winning Entrepreneurship

DON’T allow people to make you feel bad for being awesome.
DO personally amputate anyone who doesn’t believe in or support you.
And surround yourself with people who love and inspire you.
Who could you call at 2 AM?

DON’T be so interested in creating a work of art.
DO be interesting in becoming a work of art yourself.
And just know that it’s never truly finished.
What did you create today?

DON’T be selfish with your knowledge.
DO share your expertise generously so people recognize it, become addicted to it and eventually depend on you for it.

How To Successfully Get Into Business By Buying A Good Business - With Almost No Money Down



Did you know that now may be the easiest time ever to create exactly what you want? Why? Because the economy seems to be spinning out of control, and baby-boomers are at a particular stage in their lives. Let me explain…

Most people don’t know this but the fact is that you can achieve financial and time freedom easier, faster and safer by buying rather than starting a business.

There are two things that you should be aware of if you wish to financially liberate yourself and your family practically, fast, effectively, powerfully and safely - with almost no money down…

Fact #1: Did you know that your fastest, safest, and possibly easiest vehicle to securing your financial and time freedom is, paradoxically, buying a business? It is not, for most people, starting a business. It is not saving. It is not investing in real estate or shares. And it is not working hard at your job. All these things have their place in life, and I am not saying that you should not consider or participate in them. By all means, they are good and have their place. But recognize what their place is. So why is this fact so? Hang on a minute please. Let us look at fact number two first.

Fact #2: Did you also know that this is the best time, in the history of the world, to buy a business? Why?

Allow me to explain both positions.

First of all, why is buying a business better, in many ways, than starting one?

Well, the advantages of buying over starting are that:

- Purchase price/terms are negotiable and can be fixed. When you are buying a business of any size, you get a ready, running package that you can see and touch, that is operational, and you can negotiate the terms and know upfront how much it will take to get into it. Starting, on the other hand, is not so predictable, and things often don’t go according to plan.

- Funding options widen when you are buying. Whereas it is difficult to get bank loans and investors for new start ups that are just an idea, it is relatively easy to get bank loans and investors for businesses that are already running and have customers, suppliers, products and so on, all already manifest and provable.

- Cash flow from day one. When you buy, you are buying a ready package with cash flow. And cash flow is like blood to a business. You cannot do without it.

- Less risky. Again, from the fact that the business is already running and proven. Whereas 75% of start-ups fail within the first 5 years, 75% of franchises, for example, succeed. Businesses that are already operational are somewhat like franchises. The tables are turned. Sure, you get more flexibility with a start-up, but you get more surety with a business that is already running.

- You can flip it soon after buying. Just like a house, you buy, renovate it, and sell it at a higher price.

- Best of all, you can buy it for almost no money down. How? Just a minute, we will get into that shortly.

Second question. Why is this the best time, in the history of the world, to buy a business?

Because of two factors:

- A once-in-a-lifetime global asset fire sale. Because of the state of the financial world right now, almost all assets are cheaper. Way cheaper. So now you can negotiate a very good price whereby you build profit into the purchase price.

- A once-in a lifetime baby-boomer generation's business sale. Many people are approaching retirement and wish to offload their business. These are the baby-boomer generation. They were the first major group to get into the start up business movement. And now they wish to sell. For all sorts of reasons. Some are just tired and just wish to get rid of it and will give you great terms on their businesses. Some did not organize their business well enough and cannot compete without making the kind of changes (such as technology) that you may be able to make. Some just want to realize their retirement. Whatever the reason, today there are more businesses for sale than there are buyers of businesses. It is a buyers market.

This brings us to the best part. How can you possibly buy a business for no money down? Well, because of the global financial state, the over-supply of businesses for sale (even on eBay only, you will find tons, everything from small websites to large concerns), and the fact that baby-boomers desperately want to sell, you can easily get seller financing. Here is one way you can get a business for almost no money down. You simply let the owner understand that you will be able to pay them using the revenues of the business. So in effect, you will buy their business. But instead of paying cash for it, the owner will keep title of various assets in the business, and maybe even title to your car or other assets. As security. And then over the course of the year, you will pay them an agreed sum monthly, until the full price is paid, and then the title to the assets will revert to you. If you fail to pay, the owner gets back the business. But if you do your homework well, and arrange the deal well, you will easily get the money to pay the owner from the very business you bought. This sounds unbelievable, but veterans in business know that in many areas and industries about 70% of businesses are bought and sold this way. You can do this. I will show you how here:

Persuasion Tip - How to Persuade Your Prospect to Make a Commitment

You've been in this situation before. You spend an entire afternoon talking animatedly about the merits of this one product you're trying to sell; and after wasting about a bucket of saliva on the effort, your prospect tells you he cannot possibly find any use for it.

Deep inside, surely you'd want to lash out at him for pulling your leg in the first place. But, hey, that's just part of the challenges of being in the sales industry.

How do you persuade a person, who thinks he doesn't need your product, to actually believe on his own that what you're selling is indispensable and something he shouldn't be leaving home without?

This sounds like an impossible feat, doesn't it? But it's actually very possible. You just have to know what buttons to push to get a 'yes'.

And that button, much to the surprise of many, is pain. Yes, you read that right. Hit your prospect where it hurts without him knowing that he has been subliminally injured. It is in his pain where he is unguarded and very likely to succumb to whatever you say.

How is this done? Think of it this way. All of the things in this world, no matter how seemingly far-fetched, has a potential value for your prospective buyer. Every person needs something, almost often not knowing that he needs it. Your job is to persuade that person that there is something lacking in his life that your product would fill perfectly. This is how you get commitments.

If your prospect is bent on finding a solution to his 'dilemma', then expect him to run to you for respite. After all, you're the one who introduced the concept of this pain in the first place, so you better be smart to know when to reap the fruits of your labor.

When the prospect comes to you, remind him of his quandary. Once it has sunk in on him, be firm and ask for a commitment. More often than not, you will get what you want. However, should it happen that the prospect will still not give his commitment, then perhaps it's best to move on to someone else. It's either he doesn't take you seriously or he really has no resources as of the moment.

In the end, the key to a closed deal is a commitment. If you don't have it, then it would take a lot of luck and persuasive effort from you or someone of influence, or a sudden event, to win one. Always remember the world of sales does not come out with victories at all times. There will be moment when you have to turn around and look the other way. After all, there are billions of people in the world; you will never run out of potential clients.

Procrastination

Do you put off your work for later, only to find your deadlines steadily creeping in? Then you, my friend, are one of the millions of people afflicted by the procrastination virus. Procrastination is the biggest reason for loss of productivity and late output. Though many would not admit it, they would benefit greatly if they start their work on time.

For many people, putting off their work for later is more habit than desire. It can be so hard to get into a groove where starting your tasks in a timely fashion is a priority; especially if the consequences for being late are things that one can probably bear.

If you are one of these people, yet you desire to shake off your propensity for procrastination, then you have come to the right place. Here are a few tips to help you overcome this dilemma and become a more productive and reliable person.


1. Set schedules – It is very important that you have a list of activities to accomplish per day. This will help you realistically budget your time and resources. One of the cardinal sins people commit in regards to performing their tasks is to put off their work because they feel like there is so much time left. A journal, organizer, or calendar of events will help you plan and schedule your task so that you can start them promptly and finish them on time.


2. Save the Vacation for Later – Many people put their work off for later saying, “I'll just have a little fun then buckle down to work later.” While it may be true that they may have more than enough time to accomplish their tasks, it would be better if they finished their work first and relax afterward.


Wouldn't relaxation be sweeter if it were after a taxing job? If you choose to lay back and relax before doing your tasks, you will be more prone to burnout and will have nothing exciting left to look forward to after accomplishing a task. It is always better to have slack period AFTER a job than before one, especially considering that people are wont to overusing their slack time. This is suicide if you are heading towards a deadline.


3. Never Underestimate Your Tasks – Sometimes procrastination sets in because people underestimate the resources, difficulty, and time spent for a particular task. They will usually say, “It's just mowing the lawn, it’s easy; I could do it in a jiffy.” The problem is, no matter how trivial the task, it still takes time and resources to accomplish. If you underestimate a task, you will most likely set too little time to do it and schedule it too close to its deadline.


4. Don't Allow Yourself to Get Comfortable Doing Nothing – It would definitely help if you kept a subconscious alarm whenever you are doing nothing. Get this alarm to remind you of things that may need to be done. This will help you foster the notion that jobs accomplished now means more time for relaxation later. However, even if this is the case, do not forget to put ample time in for rest and to remove all thoughts of troubles before hitting the sack. The trick here, however, is not to overdo you rest. There is a difference between resting and idling. Always set the right amount of time for rest and stick to that schedule.

The people who call-in to your tele-seminar are going to be the people from your mailing lists, and the people who find your announcement on your various websites. Have people sign-up for your tele-seminar and then e-mail them the information of where to call. Send a couple follow-up messages and remind people to attend.

What Day and Time are best for Tele-Seminar Attendance?

One hurdle you face once you have decided to host a tele-seminar is what day of the week and what time do you host it. Extensive research into this has shown that the best days are Tuesday and Thursday and the best time is about 6pm in the evening when people are home from work. It is best to try to aim for these days and time rather than try to “reinvent the wheel” and test days and times needlessly.

What is Your Call Agenda?

Every tele-seminar needs to have an agenda. To come up with ideas for your calls you need to understand what your list members are looking for and how you can help them achieve it through your call. Is there something you can talk about which will educate them? Can you find a guest speaker who they will be excited to hear from? Think about your list members needs and go from there. And, don’t feel like you have to have tons of things to talk about. A simple 30 minute call about a single topic of interest will suffice.

The basis of your tele-seminar should be to educate your callers. You may wish to sell to them, through your websites and even your guest speakers, but ultimately you want your callers to be learning something and appreciating that you want to give them something of value. It is from this feeling of building a relationship with you that they will purchase from you either immediately or later on down the line.

When you have a guest speaker, you want to really hype them up and sell them – do not sell their products! However, just by listening to them talk, and by your association with them, you will sell their products, and your own, from just simply hosting the call.

Tele-Seminar Call Etiquette 101

You want to handle your call in a professional manner. This means that if you are working from home you want to be in a quite place. You want to introduce yourself and anyone else who is speaking. You want to chat a bit at the beginning about where you are located or something which will help you to connect to your callers. Let your callers know that you all have similar things in common in your lives.

On your sign-up page you should have a nice, professional photo of yourself. You might also want to have an audio clip. This allows your attendees to feel like they know you and have seen and heard you before.

The most important thing you can do for your callers, and your own professional reputation, is to be on time to your tele-seminars. If you are late your business will really suffer over time.

No, Don’t Hang Up!

Studies have shown that most callers will hang-up from a tele-seminar after 10 minutes if they are bored or not learning something. This means that you have 10 minutes from the start of your call to get your callers engaged.

One way to keep callers on the line is by giving them a bit of a hook. To do this you will want to tell them about something which is coming up, and then talk about something different. For instance, if I were giving a tele-seminar I might say that I have an exciting announcement about a new product coming up in a few minutes. Because of the natural curiosity of people, they will stay on the line because they want to know what your new product is. By subtly doing this a few times, you can hold your caller’s attention through the entire call.

Reuse and Recycle Your Tele-Seminars

One of the biggest advantages you have with tele-seminars is that you can reuse them in unlimited ways to further capitalize on their time and effort. You can record your sessions and offer them as MP3 files on your website. You can have them transcribed and converted into eBooks. You can take the resulting eBook and break it down into articles to use for article marketing and SEO. Think of all of the marketing possibilities you can come up with by hosting a single, 30 minute tele-seminar.

As you can see, a tele-seminar can be a great addition to your internet affiliate marketing ventures. You can use them to build great relationships with your lists, make joint ventures with others through their being a guest speaker on your call, and can then use the information over and over again in many other moneymaking ways. According to Wallace Wattles, in his popular wealth treatise
called the Science of Getting Rich, said that, “There is a
science of getting rich, and it is an exact science, like algebra
or arithmetic. There are certain laws which govern the process of
acquiring riches, and once these laws are learned and obeyed by
anyone, that person will get rich with mathematical certainty.”

It is true. Those who make wealth know that it comes about by
application of simple rules and principles. Those who don’t make
wealth don’t know about these simple things, and so they assume
that wealth is a result of luck or pure chance or something just
as superstitious or silly.

Anthony Robbins is one of the top success coaches in the world,
having coached star sports players, heads of states and Fortune
500 executives. In his Get The Edge program, he listed down 12
specific reasons he has come to observe to be the leading causes
for most people’s lack of wealth. Here they are:

1. They never decide and really define, very specifically,
what wealth means for them. The keyword here is specifically. Can
you imagine how hard it would be to build a car or a plane
without making a blueprint or sketch drawings of it first? You
have to know what your target is before you go chasing after it.

2. They make wealth a moving target instead of a fixed one
(this is related to point one above). Once you have your target,
fix it. Don’t change it until you reach it. You must accomplish
each step, celebrate, and then set course for a new step, a new
target.

3. They define it in a way that seems unreachable. You only
achieve what you believe. No more, no less. So you must make it
believable for you. Set goals that will make you move forward and
stretch, but not too high that even you yourself don’t believe
you can. Take the biggest step you believe you can, achieve it,
then take the next biggest you believe you can. This will build
positive reinforcement in your self-confidence as well.

4. They never start. Ok, this is obvious. If you keep
thinking about it forever, it will forever remain in the thought
level. You have to act! Start somewhere, anywhere! Only after you
start do you begin to get some feedback which will help you plot
your course better. The aircraft has to first take off before it
starts to adjust course for its destination. You must start,
somewhere, anywhere, doesn’t matter, just start! Act!

5. They never make it a must. Let me explain what it means
to make it a must. It means marshalling all your intent, your
will, your direction, into one singular flow that is directed
towards your goal. All obstacles are viewed as challenges to be
overcome. You will meet obstacles, and so expect it, but also
expect to move forward anyways. Use your obstacles to develop
strength and skills, don’t run away. Find out how to go past
them. Find out! There is always a way, always. And if your
emotions are acting against your desire, embrace them, learn what
they are, know yourself, but keep moving forward. Make it a must,
and it will happen. Guaranteed. You don’t know in how many steps
it will take, but you know it will happen.

6. They don’t have a realistic plan. If you want to do
something, find out how it is done from someone who has done it
before. Make a realistic plan. Copy from those who have succeeded
before you. But don’t throw away your intuition. Your intuition
is extremely powerful once you learn how to listen to it with
practice.

7. If they have a realistic plan, they never follow through
on the plan. Well, if you don’t follow the plan, who will?

8. They give responsibility to others (”experts”) instead of
to themselves. This way, they never really learn how to do it,
and if there are failures they never learn why the failures
happened and so they are bound to repeat them. It is a good idea
to get advice, but do it yourself. At least understand it
yourself even if you will delegate the actual doing.

9. They give up when they face challenges. Going through the
challenges is what has made people rich, not giving up. Look,
there are always challenges. So get used to that. You will only
get where you wish to get to if you are willing to face the
challenges along the path. All challenges are opportunities
dressed in work clothes, remember that. After the challenge is
over, you will discover the amazing fruit it held for you.

10. They fail to conduct their lives as a business; they
never ensure that they make a profit year by year. Get a personal
finance package like Quicken or Microsoft Money. you need to have
budgets and cash flow statements for your personal finances and
your businesses. It is easy with those software packages. If you
don’t keep records and track, you wont know when you are making
or losing money until it is embarrassingly too late.

11. They allow other people’s ideas to affect their decisions
unreasonably. There will always be people who don’t believe in
your way, or who are pessimistic, who try to pull you down, or
whatever. And they will sometimes be your closest friends and
family. You cannot change that - they have a right to be who they
are. It is OK. Allow them their thoughts, don’t judge them for
that, but don’t feel obligated to accept their thoughts of follow
their way. Don’t allow other people, now or from the past,
unreasonably affect your decisions. Allow them their way, and you
live your way.

12. They don’t get quality coaching. This is extremely
important! Coaching is simply getting mentored by someone who has
succeeded wildly in the area of your interest. Get coaching! Our
education system hardly equips us for real life, so don’t assume
that because you went to college you are properly equipped.
Hardly. You need to keep learning. The most successful people
attend seminars, read books, join mastermind groups and clubs,
find mentors, network, and even hire expensive personal coaches
to make sure they succeed.

How many of these reasons can you identify with? Well, now that
you see the reasons, you now can look at yourself and make sure
that you don’t follow ways that are known to not lead to wealth.
